sauna and ice bath in bangkok — what your first visit actually looks like
How cold is the water, really? Seven degrees. What a private infrared sauna and cold plunge session on Sukhumvit Soi 24 actually involves - how hot, how cold, what to wear, and what it costs.
Most people who walk into a sauna and cold plunge studio for the first time have the same two questions, and they're rarely the ones the website answers. How cold is the water, really? And am I going to look like I don't know what I'm doing?
Seven degrees. And no - you're in a room by yourself with the door shut, so there's nobody to look like anything in front of.
That's the short answer. Here's the whole thing, start to finish. No mystique, no hard sell. Just what happens when you book an hour with us on Soi 24.
the short version of the science
Heat, then cold. That's it - the sequence is the whole idea, and it's been around a lot longer than the word "biohacking."
The heat comes from a full-spectrum infrared sauna, which works differently from the traditional kind. A traditional sauna heats the air around you until the air heats you; it's heavy, humid, and for a lot of people slightly claustrophobic. Infrared skips the middle step and warms your body directly, using wavelengths of light. The air stays dry and breathable. You sweat properly, but it feels less like endurance and more like lying in strong afternoon sun.
Then you get into cold water, and your blood vessels do the opposite of what they've just spent forty minutes doing. That contrast - dilate, constrict, repeat - is what people are actually after. Less inflammation, less soreness after training, better sleep that night, and a mood lift afterwards that's difficult to describe to anyone who hasn't felt it.
We've written more about what infrared does and why we use it if you want the longer version. You don't need any of it to enjoy the session.
your first hour, step by step
before you arrive. Drink water - more than you think, and before rather than after. Shower if you can, and go light on lotions and perfume; your skin does better without a layer between it and the heat. Leave the jewellery at home, or plan to take it off, because metal gets hot.
arriving. Come 10-15 minutes early. Our staff will meet you in reception, take you through how everything works, and show you where to change. If it's your first session, the introduction is properly hands-on - nobody gets pointed at a door and left to guess. There's a changing room for your things, a robe and towel waiting, and then you're taken through to your own suite.
the suite. It's yours alone, door closed, for the whole session. Inside: the infrared sauna, a cold plunge, a hot rain shower, and a private changing area. There's hand-rolled Balinese incense, infused water, and Bluetooth speakers in the sauna if you'd rather have a podcast or a record on than silence. There's also coloured LED lighting - blue if your head is busy, green if you just want to feel level, red if you're after energy. Choose whatever you like the look of; it's not a test.
in the sauna. Give it a few minutes. The warmth starts immediately but the real sweat usually turns up somewhere around the halfway point. If it gets to be too much, open the door for a moment and let some air in - that's normal, not a failure. There's a guide in the suite with suggestions if you want structure: stretch, breathe, meditate, or lie there and think about nothing at all.
the plunge. Shower first - always, before the water. Then get in slowly and breathe out longer than you breathe in. At 7°C the first fifteen seconds are the hard part, and the rest is much easier than those first fifteen seconds led you to believe. Thirty seconds to a minute is a perfectly respectable first go. Some people go back and forth between the sauna and the plunge two or three times in a session; some do one round and are happy. Neither is more correct.
finishing. Rinse off in the hot shower - organic skin and hair care is there for you - change, and take your time leaving. You'll keep perspiring gently for a while, so loose clothes are kinder than tight ones. If you came in the evening, expect to sleep unusually well.
A fuller walk-through of the ritual lives on your experience.
the numbers people ask for
- Sauna temperature: 75-80°C. Meaningfully cooler than a traditional sauna, which often runs past 90°C. Infrared doesn't need the air to be that hot to do its work.
- Cold plunge temperature: 7°C, held there and filtered continuously. Cold enough to do the job, and cold enough that you'll remember the first time.
- Session length: 60 or 90 minutes, the suite yours for the whole of it.
- Privacy: 100% private suites. Not a shared bathhouse, not a communal ice barrel with a queue behind it.
- Equipment: Clearlight full-spectrum saunas, among the lowest EMF in the industry, and commercially filtered cold plunges.
- Bringing someone: yes. Up to two extra people on a 60-minute session, three on a 90, at THB 400 each.
what it costs
A single 60-minute session is THB 1,200; 90 minutes is THB 1,800. If you already know you'll be back - and most people are, we've found - the packs bring it down a long way: seven sessions for THB 6,800, fifteen for THB 12,000, thirty for THB 20,000. There's also a monthly membership at THB 18,000 for 30 credits in 30 days, which suits people who've made this part of their week rather than an occasional treat.

is it for you?
If you train - running, cycling, HYROX, CrossFit, padel, golf - the recovery case makes itself, and you'll feel it two days later rather than that evening. If you don't train at all, the case is different but no weaker: this is one of the few hours in a Bangkok week where nobody can reach you and there's nothing to do.
A few people should talk to a doctor first, and we'd rather say so plainly: if you're pregnant, have a chronic condition, a heart condition, or you're on medication that affects how you handle heat, check before you book. Nobody under 15. And if you've had a drink, come another day.
